It is the headquarters of the Mahima movement around the world. Situated 26 kms from the Dhenkanal Palace. Joranda Gadhi is a temple complex dedicated to the Supreme Lord. The followers of Mahima Dharma worship him as Sunya Brahman or the shapeless lord. No idol worship is permitted in this sect. The temple was built in the early 20th century. There is also the Samadhi Peetha of Mahima Goswami, who spread the Mahima Dharma and left for his heavenly abode while in meditation in 1876. The Mahima Gadi Dham is located in a sprawling campus of nearly 80 acres of land. The Mahima Gadi temple, the open temple (the temple with a void at the top), the temple for fire worship and the ashram are situated at this site where a fire is kept permanently ablaze. Different orders of ascetics, monks and the followers reside in the ashram and maintain the daily routine of worship. The main Mahima shrines, four in number are Gadi Mandir, Dhuni Mandir, Akhandbati Mandir and Ghanta Mandir.

A tribal, Sadananda of nearby Deogram village, witnessed the magnificent Atma Yoga Samadhi of Swami and served him fruits for twelve years during his stay. Mahima Swami came to be known as Phalahari Gosain. The next twelve years Swami survived on cow's milk alone, rendered as service by the Raja of Dhenkanal, Maharaja Bhagirath Mahindra Bahadur. Both the king and his queen had the opportunity to have audience with Mahima Swami at Tapoban and would serve him milk in new earthen pots. Maharaja Bhagirath Mahindra Bahadur then gifted the Mahima Swami with rent free lands to settle and propagate his beliefs in a location where three villages meet: Joranda, Natima and Patna which is now the Joranda Gadhi.

The 'Magha Mela', an annual congregation, is celebrated every year on the full moon day in the month of Magha according to the Oriya calendar (between January and February). Devotees of the various sects of the cult offer mass prayer at the fair in Joranda.
